Diet Coke, The Woman's Drink

Dieting is usually associated with women. Weightloss programs and diet products are geared toward women by purposing that perfect body every women wants. I was watching tv and a commercial came on. It was a diet coke commercial but a twist to it. Diet coke for men was the product they were selling. They showed successful, strong, bussiness men drinking it. I guess diet coke has always been looked at as a woman's drink, due to the stereotype that women care more about their weight, that they decided to come out with the exact same product just with a label that added "for men" at the end of it. Now this make men more comfortable in holding a diet coke in his hand. I think it's somewhat rediculous that such products like a drink become so genderized for what is appropriate for male or female. What is even worse, this product will probably be profitable for the company and sold for a much higher price than orginial diet coke, the woman's drink.

Failure to Launch

Failure to Launch is romantic comedy film about a woman interventionist who is hired by a thirty-five year old man, Trip's parents to make him fall inlove with her to which she will influence him to move out of their house. This shows the male gender role as being lazy and unsure of the direction of their life. It shows many men who are still living at home at thirty and over who sit around, mooch off their parents, and play video games all day. They seem less interested in romance and more into the next carefree exploration they are going to go on. Also the problem with Trip is he is afraid of commitment, another stereotype of men, making her job even harder. Failure to Launch doesn't exactly portray men as being caring, successful, and independent.

Film and Gender 3

Lastnight I watched the show "Dog the Bounty Hunter". It's a man who is a former gang memeber and has 18 prior convictions. He now is a bounty hunter and a bail bondsman. His job consist of tracking down people who have skipped out on hearings or bonds. Many people he goes after are violent and it can be a dangerous job. It's a job done perferably by men. On his show however his wife is basically his right hand-man along with his older son's. She takes down men like a pro and then later the women's nuturing side comes out, and she gives them hope and prayer they can get their life straight. I like this show cause it portrays women in a different way than they usually are. She does the same job as her husband and grown son's do. It's not stereotypical of women and the work world.
